Lamar County completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. Last year Lamar County captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. Lamar County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to West End Walnut Grove by a score of 41-7. Lamar County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bulldogs want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.4 points a game. Since 2010, Lamar County has gone a combined 45-33. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lamar County has managed to compile a record of 144-142. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 2A and 191st in the AHSAA. After two seasons at Lamar County James Moore leaves to accept an assistant position on Kenny Kings staff at Daphne. His two teams at Lamar County finished a combined 9-12 and 0-1 in the playoffs. Robert Bradford takes over the helm at Lamar County after working as an assistant coach at Chilton County last season. Coach Bradford's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 27-34 (44.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Bradford's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Lamar County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2017 season. The Bulldogs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. Junior Isaac Whittle returns after rushing for 825 yards on 133 carries and scoring 4 touchdowns. Senior Mark Duncan also returns after catching 30 passes for 595 yards and 5 touchdowns. Ric Rogers also returns for his Junior season after completing 73 of 138 passes for 1,005 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also rushed for 53 yards. The defense returns Senior defender Seth Wheeler who registered 79 tackles and Senior middle linebacker Joseph White who collected 100 tackles last season. The Bulldogs open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent South Lamar on Friday, August 25 at George Bell Stadium. Last year the South Lamar Stallions finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 1A region five. The Stallions lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Spring Garden by a score of 40-14. Lamar County and South Lamar have met a total of 39 times on the football field.
